Gachagua Urges Massive Voter Turnout Ahead of Ol Kalou By-Election Nominations

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 9 – Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has called on party members in Ol Kalou Constituency to turn out in large numbers for the party primaries which kick-off on Saturday morning.

In a statement shared on social media, Gachagua urged registered DCP members to report to their respective polling stations which opened from 6am to participate in selecting the party’s flag bearer for the upcoming July 16 by-election.

“I encourage DCP Party members to turn up early in large numbers and participate in the democratic process in nominating the party’s flag bearer,” Gachagua said.

The former Deputy President assured aspirants and supporters that the nomination exercise would be conducted in a free and fair manner, with all election materials distributed to polling stations ahead of the vote. He added that each aspirant would have agents present to monitor the process.

According to Gachagua, voting will close at 5pm, after which counting will take place immediately at the polling stations before results are forwarded to the tallying centre.

He also announced that party officials and elected leaders affiliated with DCP had been instructed to stay away from the constituency during the exercise to avoid interference and allow voters to make independent choices.

“Sufficient security arrangements have been put in place to facilitate peaceful and orderly voting and counting,” he said.

The seat fell vacant following the death of the area MP, David Kiaraho, who passed away on March 29, 2026.
