NAIROBI, Kenya May 12 – Chief Registrar of the Judiciary Winfridah Mokaya has assured newly appointed Judges of the High Court and the Environment and Land Court (ELC) of the Judiciary’s full administrative and operational support as they assume office.
Speaking during an induction training session held on Monday, Mokaya congratulated the judges on their successful appointment following what she described as a rigorous and highly competitive recruitment process.
She noted that the appointments significantly strengthen judicial capacity at a time when the Judiciary is under pressure to improve efficiency, reduce case backlog, and enhance access to timely justice.
She emphasized that public expectations of the Judiciary remain high, particularly as the country approaches the pre-election period, urging the judges to uphold constitutional values, professionalism, integrity, and efficiency in the discharge of their duties.
“The expanded capacity of the two courts is intended to address case backlog, improve service delivery, and enhance access to timely justice,” she said.
The Chief Registrar further highlighted the evolving role of judges within a modern and performance-oriented Judiciary, saying judicial leadership now extends beyond courtroom adjudication to include court administration, case management, and collaboration with support staff.
She encouraged the judges to strengthen court registries, embrace digital systems, and work closely with Deputy Registrars, ICT personnel, Court Assistants, and other judicial staff to improve accountability and efficiency in service delivery.
Hon. Mokaya also urged the judges to prioritize their well-being and maintain a healthy work-life balance as they take on their new responsibilities.
She commended the Chief Justice and the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) for their continued efforts to strengthen the Judiciary through increased judicial capacity.
The Chief Registrar reaffirmed the Judiciary Management Team’s commitment to supporting the judges as they transition into their new roles.
