Jubilee Party National Chairman Kemosi freed After Arrest Over Alleged Gen Z Protest Plans

KISII, Kenya Jun 25 – Jubilee Party National Chairman Vincent Kemosi has been released after he was allegedly arrested over claims that he was planning demonstrations during the Gen Z commemoration protests.

Kemosi had reportedly been arrested in Kisii before being taken to Nyamira Police Station for questioning.

Lawyer and former Law Society of Kenya South West Branch Secretary General Justus Maenche said he successfully secured Kemosi’s release and criticised what he termed as the growing trend of arrests based on suspicion.

According to Maenche, arresting citizens over fears of what they might do, rather than actions already committed, undermines constitutional freedoms and democratic rights.

He defended the right to peaceful assembly and expression ahead of the planned Gen Z memorial protests expected across the country.

“Kenya is a democracy, not a police state,” Maenche said following Kemosi’s release.

The incident comes amid heightened security ahead of the June 25 Gen Z commemorative demonstrations marking the anniversary of last year’s anti-government protests.
