Westlands, Karen, Lang’ata Among 17 Areas Hit By Nairobi Water Disruption After Pipeline Leak

NAIROBI, Kenya, Jun 26— Residents and businesses across several Nairobi estates and neighbouring water service areas will experience temporary water supply disruptions after the Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company (NCWSC) shut down a major transmission pipeline to repair a significant leak in Kiambu County.

In a statement issued Friday, Nairobi Water said the interruption follows the detection of a major leakage on the NCT Fresh Water Pipeline at Riabai, near Kirigiti in Kiambu County.

To facilitate the emergency repairs, the utility has temporarily shut down the Kigoro–Gigiri pipeline, affecting water supply to several residential and commercial areas.

The affected areas include Westlands, Kilimani, Lavington, Upper Hill, Ngong Road, Madaraka, Lang’ata, Kibera, Karen, Uthiru, Kawangware, Kangemi, Ruai, Ngundu, Kamulu, as well as customers served by MAVWASCO and Oloolaiser Water Company.

“The Kigoro–Gigiri pipeline has been temporarily shut down to enable urgent repair works. Water supply is expected to resume progressively as soon as the repairs are completed tomorrow, Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.,” Nairobi Water said.

The utility warned that customers in the affected areas should expect either low water pressure or complete interruption of supply during the repair period.

Residents and businesses have been advised to store sufficient water for both domestic and commercial use ahead of the shutdown.

Customers seeking updates or assistance have been advised to contact the utility’s toll-free customer care line as the repair works continue.
