KUCCPS extends placement application deadline amid portal hitches

NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 25 — The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) has extended the application deadline for government-funded slots in tertiarily institutions following portal hitches.

KUCCPS assured it will bar applicants on account of time following complaints raised by the public on downtime on the application portal ahead of the initial deadline slated for February 26.

CEO Dr. Mercy Wahome said in a statement Sunday evening the agency made the decision to ensure no student is disadvantaged.

“During the ongoing application process, every student is a first-time first-time applicant since KUCCPS discontinued applications at the school level,” Wahome noted.

The processing of applications will begin once all applicants have submitted their choices based on the targeted number of students, KUCCPS added.

In light of the migration of payments for government services to the eCitizen platform, applicants the agency advised applications to avoid double payments due to longer payment validation processes.

Additionally, KUCCPS said it will announce two revision opportunities after the first placement exercise for students who need to reapply or revise their choices.

“KUCCPS is working closely with relevant stakeholders in Government to ensure that all applicants are enabled to submit their choices in the spirit of leaving no student behind,” Wahome stated

KUCCPS opened its portal for the application for placement of students to universities and colleges on February 7.

A total of 69 universities, three Secondary Teachers Training Colleges, 226 Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVETS) and the Kenya Medical Training Colleges (KMTC) campuses are available for student choices under the 2024/25 placement cycle.

All the 2023 candidates are eligible for degree and TVET programs while those for years dating back to 2000 are eligible to apply for TVET courses only.

KMTC programs target KCSE examination cohorts from the year 2014 to 2023.
