Arati’s DG Monda impeached over bribery, abuse of office claims

KISII, Kenya, Feb 29 – Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda has been impeached by the Members of County Assembly (MCAs) after 51 MCAs voted to ouster him while 15 voted in his favor following number allegations including abuse of office and bribery.

The impeachment comes two weeks after Ichuni ward MCA Wycliffe Siocha tabled a notice of motion in the county assembly to have the DG impeached.

The motion was discussed in the assembly before the speaker Dr.Philip Nyanumba and reached to agreement for MCAs to have a public participation exercise in each ward before impeachment.

Today morning the DG appeared before the assembly members to defend himself against the said allegations and he denied all these claims. The MCAs agreed to vote yes or no in the ballot this afternoon.

The DG is accused of abuse of office for using his position to using county employees to work on his personal jobs, soliciting sh.500,000 other claims which he denied.

“for those with the opinion to have Dr. Robert Monda impeached say aye, and those with a contrary opinion say nai,the hi have it,” said posed the speaker.

The casting of votes started and those supporting the impeachment against the DG were 53 against 15.

Early the DG said the motion lacks sufficient evidence to have him impeached.

The DG and his Governor Arati are not in good terms with each other since the DG was seen dining with his political enemies.

Undying allegation is to have the governor impeached after all leaders in the region ganged against the governor apart from MCAs and two ODM MPs.

Yesterday while addressing the press ,the governor pleaded with the MCAs to do away with the impeachment motion and let him be.
