{"id":103311,"date":"2024-11-25T16:03:11","date_gmt":"2024-11-25T16:03:11","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/11\/25\/govt-keen-on-bolstering-local-technology-investments\/"},"modified":"2024-11-25T16:03:11","modified_gmt":"2024-11-25T16:03:11","slug":"govt-keen-on-bolstering-local-technology-investments","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/govt-keen-on-bolstering-local-technology-investments\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt keen on bolstering local technology investments"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>Technology service providers are calling on the government to create an enabling environment for them to run their business of service provision and the management of the Kenya internet exchange.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Among the issues raised during the during the Ministry of Information, Communication and Digital Economy engagement with Technology Service Providers of Kenya (TESPOK) include digital tax and wayleaves which they say addressing will be critical in achieving the service provider`s goals.<\/p>\n<p>According to Broadcasting and Communications Principal Secretary Prof Edward Kisiang\u2019ani, the government is banking on the private sector\u2019s contribution to harness opportunities in the digital economy.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is important to note that, while the public sector has made significant contributions crafting a facilitative policy and regulatory framework, and interventions in broadband infrastructure development, private sector has remained by far the largest contributor to network and service roll out,\u201d said Prof Kisiang\u2019ani.<br \/>\nTESPOK also raised concerns on the establishment of the Protection of Critical Infrastructure Bill which the government on its end challenged them to come up with a better definition of its meaning for both parties to benefit.<\/p>\n<p>While lauding the provider`s role in advancing the government\u2019s agenda in the digital space government officials called on TESPOK to take advantage of the opportunities that are available in the provision of digital services as the government seeks to digitize majority of its platforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKenya continues to leverage technology to drive innovation, economic growth, job creation, and improved service delivery across several sectors of the economy. In this regard, technology is now powering government services, banking, health, housing, transportation, and agribusiness. I am gratified to note that the Kenya Kwanza government is keen to scale up digital transformation as part of the wider Creative and Digital Super Highway Pillar of the Plan,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>The service providers on their part asked for an enabling business environment that allows their seamless operations.<\/p>\n<p>This comes as the government committed to streamline policies and invest in infrastructure that facilitates advocacy partnerships, evaluations, research and capacity building for the service providers in subsequent meetings to discuss challenges and solutions.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Technology service providers are calling on the government to create an enabling environment for them to run their business of service provision and the management of the Kenya internet exchange.
