{"id":103480,"date":"2024-11-27T06:02:47","date_gmt":"2024-11-27T06:02:47","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/11\/27\/publisher-admits-error-after-mp-mwenjes-protest-over-organ-sale-story\/"},"modified":"2024-11-27T06:02:47","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T06:02:47","slug":"publisher-admits-error-after-mp-mwenjes-protest-over-organ-sale-story","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/publisher-admits-error-after-mp-mwenjes-protest-over-organ-sale-story\/","title":{"rendered":"Publisher admits error after MP Mwenje\u2019s protest over organ sale story"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 27 \u2013 A local daily has apologised for the erroneous publication of a headline implying a legislative push to allow the trade in human organs in the country.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>People Daily\u2019s splash, <em>\u201cFresh law to allow sale of body parts,\u201d<\/em> on Tuesday stirred public debate on the matter, with the sponsor of the proposed legislation denouncing the misrepresentation of facts.<\/p>\n<p>Embakasi West MP Mark Mwenje, who also serves as Deputy Minority Whip in the National Assembly, demanded a correction, noting that the headline was misleading despite the story providing an accurate analysis of the Bill.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI find it strange that you would proceed to make an accurate analysis of the legislative proposal on page 4 but intentionally mislead Kenyans in the headline,\u201d Mwenje stated in a protest letter demanding an immediate response.<\/p>\n<p>People Daily acknowledged the lawmaker\u2019s concerns and expressed regret over the error.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn a front-page headline in the November 26 edition of <em>People Daily<\/em>, we erroneously wrote that a proposed law would allow the \u2018sale\u2019 of human organs,\u201d the publication conveyed in its Wednesday edition.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe story itself (on page 4) made no such claim, and neither does the Bill,\u201d the paper noted.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe regret the error and apologise to the sponsor of the Bill, Embakasi West MP and Deputy Minority Whip Mark Muriithi Mwenje,\u201d the newspaper stated.<\/p>\n<p>Under Section 4 (3), the Human Tissue and Organ Transplantation Bill, 2024, explicitly prohibits the sale of human organs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo person shall offer, give or receive any reward or benefit for a human tissue or organ donated for transplantation for therapeutic purposes,\u201d the Bill reads.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 27 \u2013 A local daily has apologised for the erroneous publication of a headline implying a legislative push to allow the trade in human organs in the country.
