{"id":103551,"date":"2024-11-27T14:04:35","date_gmt":"2024-11-27T14:04:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/11\/27\/kmpdu-asks-intern-doctors-to-stay-home-after-thika-suicide-case\/"},"modified":"2024-11-27T14:04:35","modified_gmt":"2024-11-27T14:04:35","slug":"kmpdu-asks-intern-doctors-to-stay-home-after-thika-suicide-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/kmpdu-asks-intern-doctors-to-stay-home-after-thika-suicide-case\/","title":{"rendered":"KMPDU asks intern doctors to stay home after Thika suicide case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 27 \u2013 The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has directed all intern docors affiliated to it not to report to work with immediate effect after a medic based in Thik committed suicide. <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Accordng to the union\u2019s Secretary General Davji Atellah, the working conditions have been made worse by a lack of pay for four months. <\/p>\n<p>Speaking during a press conference, the SG expressed his disappointment in the government and stressed that the matter should be addresserd as quickly as possible. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe find these inhumane acts by the government that does not care about its health workers unacceptable,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis afternoon we are asking the interns to stay at home until such a time that this government will see the need to do the right thing.\u201d \u00a0<\/p>\n<p>This comes after a 56-day strike by the medics that was called off in May after the government promised to pay interns. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cHow many more doctors interns must die for this government to keep its promises?,\u201d Atellah stated.<\/p>\n<p>Atellah further indicated that doctors will on Saturday announce the day the actual strike will begin.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis coming Saturday, the 30th November all the doctors in kenya\u00a0 from both the public and private sector will congregate in Nairobi to deliberate on this matter and issue a national strike notice,\u201d Davji stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government is solely to be blamed for the untimely demise of our two young colleagues.\u201d <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Nov 27 \u2013 The Kenya Medical Practitioners and Dentists Union (KMPDU) has directed all intern docors affiliated to it not to report to work with immediate effect after a medic based in Thik committed suicide.
