The morgue is full,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Reuters news agency quotes the government as saying that around 56 people have been killed.<\/p>\n<p>Local media said police had used tear gas after supporters of the visiting team, Lab\u00e9, threw stones towards the pitch in anger at the referee.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt all started with a contested decision by the referee. Then fans invaded the pitch,\u201d one witness told AFP.<\/p>\n<p>Videos and images on social media appear to show chaotic scenes outside the stadium, with large crowds attempting to climb over walls and numerous bodies on the ground.<\/p>\n<p>Some of those lying unresponsive on the ground appear to be children.<\/p>\n<p>Regional authorities are working to \u201crestore calm\u201d, Prime Minister Bah said in a statement, and added that hospitals were aiding the injured.<\/p>\n<p>Thousands of spectators were present when the crush happened at a match between Nz\u00e9r\u00e9kor\u00e9 and Lab\u00e9, local news website MediaGuin\u00e9e reported.<\/p>\n<p>It said Sunday\u2019s match was part of a tournament in honour of President Mamady Doumbouya, who seized power in a coup in September 2021.<\/p>\n<p>In recent months there has been increased scrutiny of powerful figures in Guinean football.<\/p>\n<p>In July, Aboubacar Sampil, who is president of the country\u2019s football body Feguifoot, became the subject of an investigation into corruption and violence in football.<\/p>\n<p>A junior colleague accused Mr Sampil, who also leads the board of directors for local team ASK, of facilitating violence and trying to influence referees at a match that ASK was losing 0-1 to Milo FC.<\/p>\n<p>The latter team had to abandon the game and had trouble leaving the ground safely, according to documents filed to Feguifoot\u2019s ethics body.<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, Mr Sampil has also been accused of bypassing protocol and unliterally appointing people to jobs.<\/p>\n<p>He has always denied any wrongdoing.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>The post <a href=\"https:\/\/kbc.co.ke\/dozens-killed-in-crush-at-guinea-football-match\/\">Dozens killed in crush at Guinea football match<\/a> appeared first on <a href=\"https:\/\/kbc.co.ke\/\">KBC<\/a>.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>\u00a0 Dozens of people have died in a crush following clashes at a football match in Guinea\u2019s second-largest city, Nz\u00e9r\u00e9kor\u00e9, local media report.
