President William Ruto conveyed his condolences on Friday following the passing of Kenyan volleyball player Janet Wanja.<\/p>\n
Wanja succumbed to gallbladder cancer on Thursday night.<\/p>\n
In his message, the President acknowledged Wanja\u2019s significant contributions to the nation\u2019s sports community.<\/p>\n
\u201cJanet Wanja, a gifted and disciplined volleyball star, served the cause of our country\u2019s sports with honour and dedication,\u201d he stated on his X page.<\/p>\n
According to the head of state, the former Olympian exemplified focus, hard work, and teamwork.<\/p>\n
\u201cMay it be comfort to her family, friends and the wider sports fraternity that we are praying for them at this tough and difficult time,\u201d the President said.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne day, we will beat cancer. Rest in Peace, Wanja,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
First Lady Mama Rachel Ruto also paid tribute to the volleyball star.<\/p>\n
\u201cJanet Wanja has left an indelible mark on our sports. Her remarkable talent and passion for volleyball will forever be celebrated and remembered with gratitude. Our heartfelt love and prayers go out to her family, friends and the many fans whose lives she touched and inspired,\u201d she said<\/p>\n
