Bumula MP Jack Wamboka has called on the government to reassess education funding, citing high costs.<\/p>\n
The lawmaker, who chairs the National Assembly Committee on Public Investments and Governance, emphasised that the government should cover most academic expenses from primary to tertiary institutions, thereby alleviating the financial burden on parents.<\/p>\n
\u201cPoor parents cannot be able to support their children through the new education system because it is too costly,\u201d said Wamboka.<\/p>\n
Speaking at the graduation ceremony for Dr Moses Ayumba Luvisi in Ndalu location, Tongaren Constituency, Wamboka remarked that the new system primarily benefits learners from affluent backgrounds.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government should cater for all the costs for the CBC to enable equality education among learners,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
\u201cParents, teachers, and even the education ministry do not fully understand the CBC, yet they expect learners to adapt to it. It is destined to fail unless the government revisits its implementation model.\u201d he added<\/p>\n
The MP acknowledged that while the new system has potential benefits for the country, the current implementation strategies are disheartening and unlikely to succeed.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government should not hurry to implement the CBC. Let them listen to the cries and views of parents and other stakeholders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
Wamboka also urged the government to hire more teachers to oversee academic programmes in<\/p>\n
schools, highlighting an acute nationwide teacher shortage exacerbated by the introduction of the new system.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe government should give priority to employment of teachers to fast track implementation of CBC,\u201d he emphasised.<\/p>\n
Additionally, the MP expressed concern about the financial difficulties facing public<\/p>\n
universities, attributing these challenges to corruption.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe management of public Universities have been appearing before my Committee to answer accountability questions and we have unearthed alot of rot in the institutions,\u201d he stated.<\/p>\n
He affirmed that the Committee is committed to ensuring the prudent use of public resources in universities, warning that corrupt managers will face legal consequences.<\/p>\n
