{"id":108952,"date":"2025-01-29T11:03:51","date_gmt":"2025-01-29T11:03:51","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/01\/29\/dont-threaten-us-with-a-one-term-presidency-that-is-cheap-kindiki\/"},"modified":"2025-01-29T11:03:51","modified_gmt":"2025-01-29T11:03:51","slug":"dont-threaten-us-with-a-one-term-presidency-that-is-cheap-kindiki","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/dont-threaten-us-with-a-one-term-presidency-that-is-cheap-kindiki\/","title":{"rendered":"Don\u2019t threaten us with a one-term presidency, that is cheap: Kindiki"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 29 \u2013 Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed threats from government critics seeking to make President William Ruto a one-term leader, terming such ambitions as \u201ccheap politics\u201d that do not serve the interests of Kenyans.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Speaking Wednesday, as he hosted a section of Tharaka Nithi residents and leaders at his Karen residence, Kindiki took issue with remarks by former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and opposition leaders who have vowed to block Ruto\u2019s re-election in 2027.<\/p>\n<p>He questioned the rationale behind such a political agenda, emphasizing that the government\u2019s focus remains on delivering its development promises to Kenyans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saw some guys yesterday saying how their singular motivation is to make William Ruto a one-term President. Really? And then? How can that be your motivation as a leader?\u201d Kindiki posed.<\/p>\n<p>The Deputy President maintained Ruto\u2019s legacy would not be defined by the length of his tenure but by the impact of his administration\u2019s policies on Kenyans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPresident William Ruto, by the grace of God, is among the five Kenyans who have been privileged to occupy the highest office in the land. Even if he doesn\u2019t get a second term but will have transformed the lives of our people in health, economy, education, housing, and job creation for our young people, he will have achieved his mission,\u201d Kindiki said noting the Ruto administration remains unshaken by opposition campaign to kick them out of office in 2027<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDon\u2019t threaten us with a one-term presidency. That is cheap,\u201d he asserted.<\/p>\n<p>Kindiki\u2019s remarks come in response to Gachagua\u2019s renewed push against Ruto\u2019s administration.<\/p>\n<p>The former Deputy President, who was impeached in October 2024, has since aligned himself with opposition leaders, pledging to rally Kenyans against the President Ruto\u2019s re-election bid.<\/p>\n<p>On Monday, Gachagua joined Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka and former Defence Cabinet Secretary Eugene Wamalwa at the launch of the new Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) headquarters in Nairobi.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are part of this team and will walk this journey together to liberate this country,\u201d Gachagua declared.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe will make whatever sacrifices necessary to ensure William Ruto is a one-term president.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Gachagua accused Ruto of running an \u201cintolerant and dictatorial\u201d administration, citing controversial policies such as tax hikes that sparked nationwide protests.<\/p>\n<p>He claimed that his opposition to some of the President\u2019s decisions led to his fallout with the Kenya Kwanza government.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe government he leads is a one-man show; he wants his way, and all those ministers you see there are flower girls,\u201d Gachagua said. \u201cI was the only one who could stand up to him and say, \u2018Hey boss, this can\u2019t work.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Over the weekend, Gachagua met NARC Kenya leader Martha Karua and pledged to unite opposition forces against Ruto.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jan 29 \u2013 Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has dismissed threats from government critics seeking to make President William Ruto a one-term leader, terming such ambitions as \u201ccheap politics\u201d that do not serve the interests of Kenyans.
