Lorna Cherono from the Tegla Lorupe Foundation, is the winner of the National Cross Country Championship 6 km under 20 women\u2019s category.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt was tough I just came here to try my luck, but I am happy to have won the race, as I look forward to helping my mother,\u201d said elated Cherono<\/p>\n
Cherono who finisehd 2nd at the Discouvery cross country shed of stiff competition\u00a0 to outsprint Joyline Chepkemoi\u00a0 in the last lap to cross the finish line first in 21 minutes\u00a0 11.7 seconds.<\/p>\n
Chepkemoi finished 2nd in 21:15.6 minutes followed by Cynthia Chepkuri in 3rd position in 21 minutes\u00a0 21.1 seconds.\u00a0<\/p>\n
\u201cMy aim was to win,but things changed in the last lap. I am happy for the 2nd position. My main aim is to compete in the 1500m and 5000m at the world championship trials,\u201d said Chepkemoi.<\/p>\n
The championship was a culmination\u00a0 of\u00a0 the cross country season with athletes now shifting focus\u00a0 to Sirikwa international cross country in two weeks time at the Lobo Vilage in Kapseret.<\/p>\n
