Namibia\u2019s Founding President Dr. Sam Shafiishuna Nujoma has died at the age of 95.<\/p>\n
He passed away on February 8, 2025 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Windhoek.<\/p>\n
President Nangolo Mbumba announced his death on Sunday morning, describing him as a \u201cgallant son\u201d of Namibia who dedicated his life to the country\u2019s liberation and development.<\/p>\n
Nujoma, who had been hospitalised for medical treatment over the past three weeks, led Namibia\u2019s independence struggle and became its first president in 1990, serving three terms until 2005.<\/p>\n
\u201cAs Founding President, Dr. Nujoma provided maximum leadership to our nation and motivated every Namibian to build a country that stands tall and proud among the nations of the world,\u201d President Mbumba stated.<\/p>\n
The Namibian government is set to announce a period of national mourning and burial arrangements after consultations with the Nujoma family.<\/p>\n
