{"id":110105,"date":"2025-02-09T15:03:04","date_gmt":"2025-02-09T15:03:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/02\/09\/facebook-instagrams-meta-to-lay-off-over-3000-employees\/"},"modified":"2025-02-09T15:03:04","modified_gmt":"2025-02-09T15:03:04","slug":"facebook-instagrams-meta-to-lay-off-over-3000-employees","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/facebook-instagrams-meta-to-lay-off-over-3000-employees\/","title":{"rendered":"Facebook, Instagram\u2019s Meta to lay off  over 3,000 employees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Based on their performance, Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta will lay off 3,600 employees on Monday, February 10th across Africa, Asia, and Europe.<br \/>\nThe layoff process, which represents five percent of the company&#8217;s current workforce, is expected to continue throughout the week.<br \/>\nThe termination wave will begin in Asia-Pacific, followed by Europe, the Middle East, and Africa, concluding with North and Latin America.<br \/>\nHowever, several employees in several European countries, especially Germany, France, Italy, and the Netherlands, will be exempt from the cuts \u201cdue to local regulations.\u201d<br \/>\nEmployees were informed through an internal memo on Friday seen by <em>Reuters<\/em> as the company continues to expedite the hiring of machine learning engineers.<br \/>\nJanelle Gale, Meta\u2019s Vice President of Human Resources shared the memo on the company\u2019s internal Workplace forum.<br \/>\nAffected workers will receive severance package notifications via their work and personal email and lose access to company systems within an hour.\u00a0 They will retain their February 15th stock vesting and bonus eligibility if applicable.<br \/>\nThe memo also stated Meta would not publicly share who was laid off. Some of the affected roles might be backfilled.<br \/>\nIf a manager is let go, their team members will be assigned a new manager.<br \/>\n\u201cFor teams losing a teammate or manager on Monday, I understand this might be a difficult day,\u201d Gale wrote.<br \/>\nShe acknowledged the disruption and said offices would stay open, but employees who could work remotely were allowed to do so.<br \/>\nMeta follows a hybrid work model, requiring employees in the office three days a week. However, working from home on Monday will still count as in-person time.<br \/>\nAffected employees cannot apply for internal positions during their non-working period however they may do so after their final employment.<br \/>\n\u201cPast performance will be considered while making a hiring decision,\u201d Gale noted.<br \/>\nThe layoff follows CEO Mark Zuckerberg\u2019s January announcement to \u201craise the bar on performance management\u201d and quickly \u201cmove out low performers.\u201d<br \/>\nUsually, Meta phases out underperformers over a year, but this time, the company is making bigger cuts based on recent performance reviews.<br \/>\nThis latest layoff comes after Meta previously let go 21,000 employees between 2022 and 2023.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Based on their performance, Facebook and Instagram parent company Meta will lay off 3,600 employees on Monday, February 10th across Africa, Asia, and Europe.
