{"id":110375,"date":"2025-02-13T12:05:06","date_gmt":"2025-02-13T12:05:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/02\/13\/waititu-jaled-for-12-years-in-sh588mn-corruption-case\/"},"modified":"2025-02-13T12:05:06","modified_gmt":"2025-02-13T12:05:06","slug":"waititu-jaled-for-12-years-in-sh588mn-corruption-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/waititu-jaled-for-12-years-in-sh588mn-corruption-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Waititu jaled for 12 years in Sh588mn corruption case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 13 \u2013 Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been jailed for 12 years for conflict of interest in the Sh588 million corruption case.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In his determination, Chief Magistrate Thomas Nzioki gave him an alternative of a Sh53.5 million fine.<\/p>\n<p>Nzioki further directed that Waititu be barred from holding any public office for 10 years.<\/p>\n<p>The sentencing comes a day after the politician was found guilty of irregularly awarding tenders in Kiambu County in February 2018 during his tanure as the County boss. <\/p>\n<p>His wife Susan Wangari has been sentenced to serve a year in prison or pay a fine of Sh500,000 for dealing with public property worth Sh7.1 million.<\/p>\n<p>The other convicts in this case namely Luka Mwangi Wahinya (former Kiambu Chief Officer, Roads, Transport, Public Works and Utilities) will also serve 2 years in prison or pay a fine of 1 million shillings alongside a mandatory fine of Sh20 million or serve 5 years in prison in default. <\/p>\n<p>Also, the Directors of Testimony Enterprises Limited namely Charles Chege Mbuthia and Beth Wangeci were jailed for 4 years if they fail to pay a fine of Sh2 million shillings plus a mandatory fine of Sh294 million. <\/p>\n<p>This is after the Director of Public Prosecutions successfully proved to court that the ex-county boss and his co-accused were guilty of conflict of interest, abuse of office, engaging in fraudulent practices in procurement, fraudulent acquisition of public property and dealing with suspected property. <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 13 \u2013 Former Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu has been jailed for 12 years for conflict of interest in the Sh588 million corruption case.
