{"id":111200,"date":"2025-03-02T07:03:07","date_gmt":"2025-03-02T07:03:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/03\/02\/vatican-says-pope-stable-alert-and-oriented-as-he-spends-time-in-prayer\/"},"modified":"2025-03-02T07:03:07","modified_gmt":"2025-03-02T07:03:07","slug":"vatican-says-pope-stable-alert-and-oriented-as-he-spends-time-in-prayer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/vatican-says-pope-stable-alert-and-oriented-as-he-spends-time-in-prayer\/","title":{"rendered":"Vatican says Pope stable, alert, and oriented as he spends time in prayer"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NIAROBI, Kenya, Mar 2 \u2014 The Holy See on Saturday reported Pope Francis\u2019 health as stable in the latest update issued by the Vatican Press Office.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Holy Father\u2019s clinical condition remains stable,\u201d the statement read. <\/p>\n<p>It explained that the Pope was \u201calternating between non-invasive mechanical ventilation and long periods of supplemental high-flow oxygenation, maintaining a good response to gas exchange.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Despite recent health concerns, the statement reassured that Pope Francis \u201cdoes not have a fever and shows no leukocytosis [high white blood cell count].\u201d <\/p>\n<p>A high white blood cell count occurs when there are more white blood cells than normal in the blood and signals a response to an infection, inflammation, or other immune system challenge.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>It added that his haemodynamic parameters \u2014 those relating to blood circulation \u2014 \u201chave always remained stable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Vatican also said the Pope, who was hospitalised at Rome\u2019s Gemelli Hospital on February 14 and later diagnised with double pneumonia, continues to eat independently and undergoes respiratory physiotherapy, in which he \u201ccooperates actively.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Notably, he has not experienced any further episodes of bronchospasm, a condition that causes sudden narrowing of the airways.<\/p>\n<p>The statement also indicated the Pope had received the Eucharist, a key rite in the Catholic masses which commemorates Jesus\u2019 Last Supper, and then spent time in prayer, spending about twenty miniutes at a chapel near his hospital room.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Holy Father remains alert and oriented,\u201d the statement confirmed. <\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NIAROBI, Kenya, Mar 2 \u2014 The Holy See on Saturday reported Pope Francis\u2019 health as stable in the latest update issued by the Vatican Press Office. \u201cThe Holy Father\u2019s clinical condition remains stable,\u201d the statement read.
