{"id":112684,"date":"2025-03-29T15:02:58","date_gmt":"2025-03-29T15:02:58","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/03\/29\/knhrc-faults-kahariri-and-haji-over-warnings-to-anti-ruto-groups\/"},"modified":"2025-03-29T15:02:58","modified_gmt":"2025-03-29T15:02:58","slug":"knhrc-faults-kahariri-and-haji-over-warnings-to-anti-ruto-groups","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/knhrc-faults-kahariri-and-haji-over-warnings-to-anti-ruto-groups\/","title":{"rendered":"KNHRC faults Kahariri and Haji over warnings to anti-Ruto groups"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 29 \u2013 The Kenya National Human Rights Commission (KNHRC) has  criticized Chief of Defence Forces Charles Kahariri and National Intelligence Service Director General Noordin Haji for warning protesters rooting for President William Ruto\u2019s removal.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The commission asserted that state security agencies have no authority to suppress public expression, emphasizing that Article 1 of the Constitution affirms that all sovereign power belongs to the people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNo authority\u2014military, intelligence, or executive\u2014can override the sovereignty of the people of Kenya,\u201d KNHRC stated on Saturday.<\/p>\n<p>The commission accused the government of engaging in McCarthyism and political intimidation, insisting that the \u201cRuto Must Go\u201d chants fall within Kenyans\u2019 constitutional rights.<\/p>\n<p>It further alleged that the executive, military, and intelligence service\u2014not the protesters\u2014have acted outside the law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe executive unlawfully deployed the military last year when Kenyans breached Parliament to reclaim their power,\u201d the statement read. \u201cThe military participated in this unconstitutional action, while the intelligence service has been linked to enforced disappearances.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>KNHRC argued that these actions violate democratic principles and constitutional provisions on human rights, freedoms, and the rule of law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cNeither Kahariri nor Haji has the moral authority to lecture Kenyans on upholding the Constitution\u2014they have trampled upon it,\u201d the commission stated.<\/p>\n<p>Reaffirming Kenyans\u2019 right to peaceful assembly and free expression, KNHRC emphasized that the government, military, and intelligence service must remain subordinate to the will of the people.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKenyans will not bow to unconstitutional decrees.
