{"id":113763,"date":"2025-04-16T13:04:25","date_gmt":"2025-04-16T13:04:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/04\/16\/court-to-give-directions-on-petition-against-pending-bills-audit\/"},"modified":"2025-04-16T13:04:25","modified_gmt":"2025-04-16T13:04:25","slug":"court-to-give-directions-on-petition-against-pending-bills-audit","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/court-to-give-directions-on-petition-against-pending-bills-audit\/","title":{"rendered":"Court to give directions on petition against pending bills audit"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 16 \u2013 The High Court has scheduled April 25 for directions in a petition challenging the legality of the committee appointed by President William Ruto to audit the country\u2019s ballooning pending bills, now estimated at Sh6.9 trillion.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Human rights organization Operation Linda Jamii, through lawyer Frederick Ogola, filed the suit arguing that the committee\u2019s formation lacks transparency and raises constitutional concerns.<\/p>\n<p>Appearing before Justice Grace Nzioka on Wednesday, Ogola emphasized the urgent economic threat posed by the mounting unpaid bills. <\/p>\n<p>He told the court that the county governments owe Sh182 billion, while the national government has failed to pay Sh516 billion, contributing to a deepening fiscal crisis.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe country is staring at a serious economic problem.
