He lauded the university\u2019s collaboration with Kenya\u2019s Kenyatta University and invited deeper partnerships in science, technology, and innovation \u2014 particularly in artificial intelligence, biotechnology, and the creative economy.<\/p>\n<p>Ruto\u2019s address set the tone ahead of his expected bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, where deeper cooperation in infrastructure, education, and innovation are likely to feature prominently.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cKenya\u2019s \u2018Silicon Savannah\u2019 is thriving at Konza Technopolis,\u201d he noted, adding that the country\u2019s forthcoming National AI Strategy (2025\u20132030) offers a strong platform for joint innovation with Chinese institutions.<\/p>\n<p>Addressing global shifts, Ruto said Africa and China remain \u201cpivotal partners\u201d bound by history and shared interests. He recalled that China was among the first countries to establish diplomatic ties with Kenya in 1963 and remains Kenya\u2019s largest trading partner.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur cooperation through the Belt and Road Initiative has delivered transformative projects like roads, ports, and the Standard Gauge Railway,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>However, the Kenyan leader expressed deep concern over the state of the post-World War II multilateral system, describing it as \u201cbroken and dysfunctional.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He criticized the United Nations Security Council for being dominated by permanent members who often act in contradiction to the Council\u2019s resolutions, saying, \u201cIt is increasingly illegitimate and resistant to reform.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Turning to the global financial system, Ruto said the Bretton Woods institutions are outdated and unrepresentative of the modern world, having been formed when \u201ctwo-thirds of today\u2019s sovereign states did not exist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted four pressing challenges facing the current system: lack of liquidity during crises, inadequate climate and development financing, high cost of capital for poorer nations, and recurring debt crises.<\/p>\n<p>On climate change, Ruto warned that Africa is bearing the brunt of a crisis it did little to cause.
