{"id":116794,"date":"2025-06-19T10:04:08","date_gmt":"2025-06-19T10:04:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/06\/19\/south-africas-firebrand-politician-banned-from-entering-uk\/"},"modified":"2025-06-19T10:04:08","modified_gmt":"2025-06-19T10:04:08","slug":"south-africas-firebrand-politician-banned-from-entering-uk","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/south-africas-firebrand-politician-banned-from-entering-uk\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa\u2019s firebrand politician banned from entering UK"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>A controversial South African politician central to a row over race relations in the country has been denied entry to the UK.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Home Office said Julius Malema had been deemed \u201cnon-conducive to the public good\u201d and that it was \u201cundesirable\u201d to grant him entry.<\/p>\n<p>In a letter published by local media outlet News 24, the UK government cited his vocal support for Hamas, including a speech he made after the 7 October attacks in which he said his own party would arm the group if it came into power.<\/p>\n<p>The UK also raised his threat to call for the \u201cslaughter of white people\u201d and to \u201ctake up arms\u201d as a reason for the rejection.<\/p>\n<p>His Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) party, which came fourth in South Africa\u2019s parliamentary election last year, condemned the decision as \u201ccowardice\u201d and said it would stifle democratic debate.<\/p>\n<p>Malema featured prominently in a video played last month by President Donald Trump during a visit by South African President Cyril Ramaphosa to the White House.<\/p>\n<p>This is the second time Malema has been denied entry to the UK in just two months.<\/p>\n<p>The first time the UK government said he had submitted his application too late \u2013 this time, a British official in South Africa told the BBC it was a \u201csubstantive decision\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>The UK said he has no right of appeal and was likely to be denied any future applications, according to News 24.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A controversial South African politician central to a row over race relations in the country has been denied entry to the UK.
