{"id":117278,"date":"2025-06-28T08:03:29","date_gmt":"2025-06-28T08:03:29","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/06\/28\/iran-holds-state-funeral-for-military-leaders-killed-in-israel-conflict\/"},"modified":"2025-06-28T08:03:29","modified_gmt":"2025-06-28T08:03:29","slug":"iran-holds-state-funeral-for-military-leaders-killed-in-israel-conflict","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/iran-holds-state-funeral-for-military-leaders-killed-in-israel-conflict\/","title":{"rendered":"Iran holds state funeral for military leaders killed in Israel conflict"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>June 28 \u2013 A state funeral is taking place in Iran for around 60 people, including military commanders and nuclear scientists, killed during the 12-day conflict with Israel.<\/p>\n<p>Coffins draped in the Iranian flag, bearing portraits of deceased commanders were flanked by large crowds near Enghelab Square in central Tehran.<\/p>\n<p>The conflict ended with a ceasefire earlier this week, after the US became directly involved by bombing key nuclear sites in Iran.<\/p>\n<p>Among those being laid to rest is Mohammad Bagheri, the highest-ranking military officer in Iran who was chief of staff of Iran\u2019s armed forces.<\/p>\n<p>Huge crowds of mourners dressed in black chanted slogans, waved Iranian flags and held portraits of those killed.<\/p>\n<p>Saturday\u2019s funeral will also include Hossein Salami, commander-in-chief of the Islamic Revolutionary Guards, as well as a number of nuclear scientists such as Mohammad Mehdi Tehranchi, who was head of Azad University in Tehran.<\/p>\n<p>It comes after US President Donald Trump said he would\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/cvgenq599kwo\">\u201cabsolutely\u201d consider bombing Iran again.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Responding to a question from the BBC\u2019s Nomia Iqbal at a White House press briefing on Friday, he said he would \u201cwithout question\u201d attack the country if intelligence concluded Iran could enrich uranium to concerning levels.<\/p>\n<p>Trump has also repeated his assertions that Iran was \u201cdecimated\u201d, writing: \u201cWhy would the so-called \u2018Supreme Leader\u2019 Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, of the war-torn country of Iran, say so blatantly and foolishly that he won the war with Israel, when he knows his statement is a lie.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Trump also claimed to have known \u201cexactly where he [Khamenei] was sheltered\u201d, saying he \u201cwould not let Israel, or the US Armed Forces\u2026 terminate his life\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI saved him from a very ugly and ignominious death, and he does not have to say, \u2018thank-you, president Trump!&#8217;\u201d Trump posted on his Truth Social platform.<\/p>\n<p>Iran\u2019s foreign minister, Abbas Araghchi, warned Trump against making \u201cdisrespectful\u201d comments about Khamenei, who claimed US and Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites had achieved \u201cnothing significant\u201d.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf President Trump is genuine about wanting a deal, he should put aside the disrespectful and unacceptable tone towards Iran\u2019s Supreme Leader, Grand Ayatollah Khamenei,\u201d Araghchi posted on X.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Great and Powerful Iranian People, who showed the world that the Israeli regime had no choice but to run to \u2018Daddy\u2019 to avoid being flattened by our Missiles, do not take kindly to Threats and Insults.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Araghchi has admitted that\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/articles\/crmv3kp744ro\">\u201cexcessive and serious\u201d damage was done<\/a>\u00a0to Iran\u2019s nuclear sites by the recent bombings.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>June 28 \u2013 A state funeral is taking place in Iran for around 60 people, including military commanders and nuclear scientists, killed during the 12-day conflict with Israel.
