{"id":118166,"date":"2025-07-16T04:03:20","date_gmt":"2025-07-16T04:03:20","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/07\/16\/killer-squads-do-not-exist-in-our-police-formations-murkomen\/"},"modified":"2025-07-16T04:03:20","modified_gmt":"2025-07-16T04:03:20","slug":"killer-squads-do-not-exist-in-our-police-formations-murkomen","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/killer-squads-do-not-exist-in-our-police-formations-murkomen\/","title":{"rendered":"Killer squads do not exist in our police formations: Murkomen"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 16 \u2014 Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed claims regarding the existence of a so-called \u201ckiller squad\u201d within Kenya\u2019s police formations.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Responding to public concerns over the conduct of certain officers, Murkomen clarified that no sanctioned unit under the current administration has been tasked with carrying out extrajudicial killings.<\/p>\n<p>He maintained that all police units are constitutionally mandated to protect \u2014 not harm \u2014 citizens.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere is no known police squad involved in killing people \u2014 at least not in this administration and not to the knowledge of the Cabinet Secretary,\u201d Murkomen stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt would be unconstitutional and illegal to establish any squad to kill people in Kenya.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He emphasized that every police officer, whether in uniform or plain clothes, is equally bound by the law.<\/p>\n<p>The CS explained that while there are legitimate instances where officers may operate in civilian clothing \u2014 such as during emergencies or undercover assignments \u2014 this does not exempt them from accountability.<\/p>\n<p>Murkomen further maintained that the use of different types of vehicles \u2014 including Subarus, lorries, or even foot patrols \u2014 does not change a police officer\u2019s responsibility to act within the law.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPolice officers, whether they\u2019re using a Subaru, walking on foot, or using a lorry, are expected to abide by the law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The CS also assured the public that all reported cases of police excesses will be thoroughly investigated, with victims and their families guaranteed access to justice.<\/p>\n<p>Murkomen\u2019s remarks come amid heightened scrutiny and public debate over allegations of extrajudicial executions, especially by officers operating covertly.<\/p>\n<p>He reaffirmed the government\u2019s commitment to police reforms and the protection of human rights, assuring Kenyans that law enforcement agencies will continue to serve the public within constitutional limits.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Jul 16 \u2014 Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has dismissed claims regarding the existence of a so-called \u201ckiller squad\u201d within Kenya\u2019s police formations.
