{"id":120422,"date":"2025-08-27T12:03:12","date_gmt":"2025-08-27T12:03:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/08\/27\/capital-fms-irene-mwangi-elected-kenya-parliamentary-journalists-association-vice-president\/"},"modified":"2025-08-27T12:03:12","modified_gmt":"2025-08-27T12:03:12","slug":"capital-fms-irene-mwangi-elected-kenya-parliamentary-journalists-association-vice-president","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/capital-fms-irene-mwangi-elected-kenya-parliamentary-journalists-association-vice-president\/","title":{"rendered":"Capital FM\u2019s Irene Mwangi elected Kenya Parliamentary Journalists Association Vice President"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 27 \u2013 Capital FM\u2019s Irene Mwangi has been elected the Vice President of the Kenya Parliamentary Journalists Association (KPJA).<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Mwangi attained the post after garnering 27 votes against Kamche Menza of KBC, who had 19.<\/p>\n<p>The Star newspaper\u2019s senior political and parliamentary reporter Moses Odhiambo was elected Chairman\/President of KPJA.<\/p>\n<p>He beat David Mwere of the Daily Nation with 34 votes against 14.<\/p>\n<p>The election was overseen by James Macharia, seconded from Speaker Moses Wetang\u2019ula\u2019s office, who served as the Returning Officer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI declare Moses Odhiambo as the winner of the chairman\u2019s position having garnered more votes in the tallying process,\u201d Macharia announced.<\/p>\n<p>Kamche, who has been serving as the Association\u2019s Liaison Officer, conceded defeat as Mwangi swapped roles with TV47\u2019s Elizabeth Mutuku.<\/p>\n<p>Mutuku, who has been the Vice President for the past four years, was elected Treasurer after securing 26 votes against KBC\u2019s Edward Kabasa, who managed 20.<\/p>\n<p>Mwangi thanked members for their overwhelming support, saying the victory belonged to all journalists committed to a stronger and more united KPJA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis victory is not mine alone it is ours. It reflects our shared belief in building a stronger, more professional, and more united KPJA,\u201d she stated.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI commit myself to serve with integrity, transparency, and dedication, guided always by the interests of our members and the growth of our association.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Odhiambo succeeds NTV\u2019s Duncan Khaemba, who retires after serving two consecutive terms as KPJA chair.<\/p>\n<p>Other elected officials include Edwin Obuya of Radio Citizen, who was elected unopposed as Secretary General, succeeding Julius Otieno of The Star.<\/p>\n<p>Collins Omulo of the Daily Nation secured the Deputy Secretary General seat with 36 votes against Mary Wangari of Taifa Leo, who got 10.<\/p>\n<p>Josphat Thiong\u2019o of the Standard Newspaper was elected Liaison Officer after beating his colleague Boniface Okendo, garnering 28 votes against 18.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Aug 27 \u2013 Capital FM\u2019s Irene Mwangi has been elected the Vice President of the Kenya Parliamentary Journalists Association (KPJA).
