JERUSALEM, Sept 15 \u2013 Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has not ruled out further strikes on Hamas leaders following last week\u2019s attack in Qatar, saying they would not have immunity \u201cwherever they are\u201d.<\/p>\n
Speaking at a press conference in Jerusalem with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Netanyahu said every country had the right \u201cto defend itself beyond its borders\u201d.<\/p>\n
Israel\u2019s decision to target Hamas leaders in Qatar \u2013 a close US ally \u2013 drew international outrage and criticism from US President Donald Trump. Hamas said six people were killed but that its leaders survived.<\/p>\n
Netanyahu\u2019s comments come days after the White House said Trump had assured Qatar \u201cthat such a thing will not happen again on their soil\u201d.<\/p>\n
When pressed on whether the US had any involvement in the strike, Netanyahu told journalists: \u201cWe did it on our own. Period.\u201d<\/p>\n
In response to a BBC question about whether the strike had damaged US relations in the region, Rubio said Washington maintained \u201cstrong relationships with our Gulf allies\u201d.<\/p>\n
The pair presented a broadly united front, even amid the apparent tensions, with Rubio praising the two countries\u2019 technological and cultural ties \u2013 and Netanyahu saying Israel had \u201cno better ally\u201d.<\/p>\n
Their meeting comes as Arab leaders hold a summit in a show of support for Qatar. <\/p>\n
