KISUMU, Kenya Sept 21 \u2013 Kisumu County Governor, Prof. Anyang\u2019 Nyong\u2019o, has announced the resolution of long-standing border disputes between Kisumu and Kericho counties.<\/p>\n
Nyong\u2019o emphasized the significance of the milestone, proposing the erection of a monumental plaque in Sondu \u2014 a region that has frequently been at the center of the conflicts.\u201cWe chose dialogue over division,\u201d said Nyong\u2019o.<\/p>\n
\u201cThrough partnership with the National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC), community elders, and leaders from both counties, we have made tangible progress. We chose to sit down, listen to one another, and find common ground,\u201d said the Kisumu Governor.<\/p>\n
Nyingo made the remarks during the commemoration of the International Day of Peace, held in Kisumu.<\/p>\n
He noted that the occasion symbolizes a shared journey \u2014 the challenges overcome and the unwavering commitment to building a future rooted in harmony.<\/p>\n
Reflecting on past conflicts, Nyong\u2019o recounted witnessing the pain and suffering caused by border tensions \u2014 not only along the Kisumu-Kericho and Kisumu-Nandi boundaries but also in other parts of the county.<\/p>\n
He called for a national resolution to such disputes.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe cannot build a truly cohesive nation on the shaky foundation of unclear boundaries, which are too often exploited for political purposes,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
The Kisumu Governor added; \u201cPeaceful co-existence and the unlocking of our border communities\u2019 development potential depend entirely on our courage to resolve these matters once and for all.\u201d<\/p>\n
Governor Nyong\u2019o also stressed the importance of laying a strong foundation for Kenya\u2019s future by meaningfully involving young people in national dialogue and peacebuilding efforts.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey are not just the inheritors of our peace \u2014 or our conflicts \u2014 but essential partners in shaping a more just and stable society.
