NAIROBI, Kenya, Sep 28 \u2013 The United Nations has reimposed a wide range of sanctions on Iran after determining that Tehran had failed to meet its nuclear commitments, the US Department of State announced Saturday evening.<\/strong><\/p>\n

According to Washington, the snapback of sanctions\u2014enforced under six previously adopted UN Security Council resolutions\u2014took effect at 8pm EDT on September 27. <\/p>\n

The measures, backed by the US, France, Germany, and the United Kingdom, follow Iran\u2019s \u201csignificant non-performance\u201d in rolling back its nuclear activities.<\/p>\n

The restored resolutions require Iran to halt uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities, prohibit the use of ballistic missile technology, and reimpose an arms embargo. <\/p>\n

They also revive travel bans and global asset freezes on designated individuals and entities, while authorizing the seizure of illicit weapons and prohibited cargo linked to Tehran.<\/p>\n

The State Department described the move as a \u201cdecisive act of global leadership,\u201d stressing that the international community had reaffirmed its resolve against what it termed Iran\u2019s \u201cdestabilizing activities.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThe world will not acquiesce to threats and half measures \u2013 and Tehran will be held to account,\u201d the statement shared following Saturday\u2019s development read.<\/p>\n

While emphasizing the firmness of the sanctions, Washington maintained that a diplomatic solution remains the preferred path. <\/p>\n

President Trump, the statement noted, \u201chas been clear that diplomacy is still an option\u2014a deal remains the best outcome for the Iranian people and the world.\u201d<\/p>\n

However, the US made clear that progress hinges on Tehran\u2019s willingness to engage directly and transparently. <\/p>\n

\u201cFor that to happen, Iran must accept direct talks, held in good faith, without stalling or obfuscation,\u201d the statement said.<\/p>\n

It added that absent such engagement, Washington and its partners would continue to enforce the renewed restrictions in a bid to pressure Iran\u2019s leadership into compliance.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
