{"id":122827,"date":"2025-10-10T02:13:00","date_gmt":"2025-10-10T02:13:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/10\/10\/court-approves-search-exhumation-in-lake-nakuru-park-in-hunt-for-missing-man\/"},"modified":"2025-10-10T02:13:00","modified_gmt":"2025-10-10T02:13:00","slug":"court-approves-search-exhumation-in-lake-nakuru-park-in-hunt-for-missing-man","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/court-approves-search-exhumation-in-lake-nakuru-park-in-hunt-for-missing-man\/","title":{"rendered":"Court Approves Search &amp; Exhumation in Lake Nakuru Park in Hunt for Missing Man"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAKURU, Kenya Oct 9 \u2013 A Senior Resident Magistrate\u2019s Court has granted officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) permission to conduct a wide-ranging search and exhumation operation within the expansive Lake Nakuru National Park.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The directive, issued by Senior Resident Magistrate Cynthia Muhoro, follows credible intelligence indicating that Brian Odhiambo may have been secretly buried within the park.<\/p>\n<p>Odhiambo, a fisherman, mysteriously disappeared while in the custody of Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) rangers on January 18 this year.<\/p>\n<p>There are growing fears that more bodies of unlicensed fishermen\u2014reported missing by their families\u2014may also be buried within the protected area.<\/p>\n<p>DCI officers from the Homicide Department sought the orders earlier this week as part of ongoing efforts to unravel the mystery surrounding Odhiambo\u2019s disappearance.<\/p>\n<p>The order, issued by Magistrate Muhoro, remains valid until January next year, even as Odhiambo\u2019s family lawyers and human rights activists raise concerns about the slow pace of implementation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are deeply concerned about the pace of implementation, and we respectfully urge that the process be expedited,\u201d said the family\u2019s lawyer, Abuya Mogendi.<\/p>\n<p>Mogendi further alleged that there are individuals within the system attempting to subvert justice by causing deliberate delays that could compromise the case.<\/p>\n<p>Speaking to the press in Nakuru today, Mogendi questioned why the six KWS officers charged with Odhiambo\u2019s abduction remain in active service, contrary to public service ethics and disciplinary guidelines.<\/p>\n<p>Vocal Africa Director Hussein Khalid also petitioned the government and relevant authorities to act swiftly on the court\u2019s directive and end the prolonged suffering of Odhiambo\u2019s family.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is not a private tragedy, but a test of the nation\u2019s moral and institutional resolve to uphold the sanctity of life, the rule of law, and accountability in public service,\u201d said Khalid.<\/p>\n<p>Several witnesses have testified in the ongoing case, in which six KWS officers are charged with Odhiambo\u2019s abduction.<\/p>\n<p>During the hearings, multiple witnesses\u2014also fishermen at Lake Nakuru\u2014have recounted how Odhiambo was arrested and tortured by KWS rangers.
