{"id":124265,"date":"2025-11-06T13:03:06","date_gmt":"2025-11-06T13:03:06","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2025\/11\/06\/nacada-partners-with-religious-leaders-in-nandi-to-combat-alcohol-and-drug-abuse\/"},"modified":"2025-11-06T13:03:06","modified_gmt":"2025-11-06T13:03:06","slug":"nacada-partners-with-religious-leaders-in-nandi-to-combat-alcohol-and-drug-abuse","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/nacada-partners-with-religious-leaders-in-nandi-to-combat-alcohol-and-drug-abuse\/","title":{"rendered":"NACADA Partners with Religious Leaders in Nandi to Combat Alcohol and Drug Abuse"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>KAPSABET, Kenya, Nov 6 \u2013 The National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) has strengthened its grassroots fight against substance abuse through a new partnership with the faith community, bringing together more than 60 religious leaders for a sensitisation meeting in Kapsabet, Nandi County.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The meeting, led by NACADA Board Chair Bishop Stephen Mairori, marked a major step in mobilising religious institutions to support community-based prevention and rehabilitation efforts under the ongoing Rapid Results Initiative (RRI) against alcohol and drug abuse.<\/p>\n<p>Mairori described religious leaders as \u201ccommanders on the frontline of a battle for the very soul of our communities,\u201d underscoring the critical role faith institutions play in shaping values, mentoring youth, and supporting families affected by addiction.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile NACADA operates in the spheres of policy and enforcement, you minister in the most critical arena of all \u2014 the human heart,\u201d said Dr. Mairori. \u201cThis makes our partnership not just beneficial, but essential.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He highlighted that alcohol remains the most abused substance in the Rift Valley region, with the worst effects being felt among young people and working-age adults.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese numbers represent the hidden faces in your congregations \u2014 families suffering in silence, shrouded in shame and fear,\u201d he said, urging clergy to use their pulpits to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and encourage rehabilitation for those struggling with addiction.<\/p>\n<p>Dr. Mairori reaffirmed NACADA\u2019s commitment to deepening collaboration with the faith sector, describing the joint campaign as a \u201ccovenant of hope\u201d aimed at restoring dignity and saving lives.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAs breweries of despair work tirelessly, we must be the architects of hope,\u201d he declared. \u201cLet today mark a covenant between NACADA and the faith community of Nandi County \u2014 a united stand that declares, enough.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Faith leaders at the meeting welcomed the initiative and pledged to extend anti-drug campaigns to the grassroots.<\/p>\n<p>Chairperson of the Nandi Interfaith Council Peter Rono said the Church was ready to work together with NACADA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen the pulpit speaks, the community listens,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Sheikh Abdulahi Omar of the Kapsabet Muslim Welfare Group echoed the sentiment, stressing that addiction cuts across all faiths.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAddiction knows no religion.
