NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 13 \u2013 Kisii MCAs staged a spirited fight as they laid the ground for the removal of Kisii Deputy Governor Robert Monda from office by tabling evidence and arguing their case on four charges laid against him.<\/strong><\/p>\n

On the first charge of gross violation of the law, MCAs accused Monda of soliciting a bribe of Sh800,000 from one Dennis Mokaya and his family in the pretext of securing him a job for the post of commercial Manager of Gusii Water and Sanitation Company (GWASCO).<\/p>\n

In the documents tabled before the floor of the House, Mokaya\u2019s father paid the Sh800,000 in three batches so that he could secure his son a job upon his shortlisting and being interviewed for the post.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe first tranche was on 28th May 2023 \u2013 Sh249,000\/=; (sent in Three (3) tranches of Sh150, 000\/=, 49, 000\/= and 50, 000\/= by Dennis Mokaya Mosati on 0725487300 to the deputy governors\u2019 Safaricom line being 0711860700),\u201d the charges read.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe second one was KES 260,000\/= to the deputy governors\u2019 safaricom line being 0711860700 and the last was tranche in the sum of kenya shillings Sh300,000\/= which was delivered to his offices in Gusii stadium in cash.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Deputy Governor allegedly received Sh800,000 but his attempts to bribe the Managing Director GWASCO with Sh100,000 hit a snag flopping the mission to secure the post on behalf of Mokaya.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe deputy governor sent via mpesa a sum of Kenya shillings Sh100,000 to the Managing Director GWASCO in order to influence her to employ the said Dennis Mokaya which request was not acceded to by the Managing Director GWASCO and the money returned via MPesa to the Deputy Governor,\u201d the documents read.<\/p>\n

When the attempts to secure the job failed miserably, Mokaya registered his complaints with the Kisii County Assembly and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission pushing for investigations against the Deputy Governor.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn informing the deputy Governor that he will be forced to make a formal complaint to Anti-Corruption Commission on the matter, the latter (Monda) threatened his life and of his family, consequently it forced the former to go into hiding,\u201d the charges read.<\/p>\n

On the charge of gross misconduct, the Deputy Governor is on the spot for interfering with the appointment of the vacant position of the Commercial Manager of GWASCO by attempting to bribe the Managing Director Ms. Lucy Wahito Wachira Sh100,000.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis was in May, 2023. This act contravened Article 75 of the Constitution of Kenya. The Deputy Governor\u2019s engagement, connivance, and or complicit behavior boils down to gross misconduct and gross abuse of office,\u201dthe charges read.<\/p>\n

MCAs argued that the actions of Monda of using his office to solicit for Kshs. 800,000 is in of the Bribery Act which they emphasized holds ground for his impeachment.<\/p>\n

On abuse of office, MCAs accused the Deputy Governor of continuously diverting County enforcement officers from their course of duty to work in his farm.<\/p>\n

Kisii County Assembly outlined that since he came into office, there have been at least five officers working in the farm.<\/p>\n

On the second instance, it has been alleged that on 20th December 2023, the Deputy Executive in chief deployed a contingency of about 20 County Officers under the supervision of the Sub-county administrator.<\/p>\n

The contingency of police officers was sent to arrest his brother, one Reuben Monda Orang\u2019i for cutting down trees that his brother Reuben Monda Orang\u2019i had planted.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
