Hospitals are adopting meditation,\u201d he added.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>In times of global challenges, meditation offers a powerful means to cultivate peace,\u00a0unity\u00a0and compassion.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>What\u2019s\u00a0behind the international day?<\/strong>\u00a0<\/h2>\n<p>With the aim of raising awareness about the benefits of this practice, the UN\u00a0General Assembly last year\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/docs.un.org\/A\/RES\/79\/137\">proclaimed<\/a>\u00a021 December as\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/en\/observances\/meditation-day\">World Meditation Day<\/a>, reaffirming the right of every person to enjoy the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Organised\u00a0by the Permanent Mission of India and the other countries that promoted the establishment of the international day, the event\u00a0\u00a0\u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.un.org\/sites\/un2.un.org\/files\/2ndworldmeditationday-un.pdf\">Meditation for Global Peace and Harmony<\/a>\u201d\u00a0aimed at\u00a0embracing\u00a0inner\u00a0harmony and\u00a0promoting international unity.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meditation\u00a0has the power to\u00a0bring\u00a0those who practice\u00a0it\u00a0to a\u00a0\u201cspace of unified feel, of\u00a0tranquillity\u2014 that oneness that binds everyone,\u201d\u00a0said\u00a0Mr. Shankar, who also led a\u00a0meditation\u00a0session at the event.\u00a0<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><strong>A powerful tool<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.who.int\/news-room\/fact-sheets\/detail\/anxiety-disorders\" target=\"_blank\">According to the World Health Organization (WHO)<\/a>, meditation can be a powerful self-care tool to reinforce treatments and improve overall well-being, especially when it comes to anxiety.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Mr. Shankar noted that today there are 700 research papers showing over 100 benefits of the practice.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>With an emphasis on breathing and presence, incorporating meditation into one\u2019s daily routine, even for just a few minutes, can help achieve a sense of calm and focus.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Before\u00a0commencing\u00a0the meditation session, Mr. Shankar spoke about anger and desire, which\u00a0grip\u00a0the mind.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese two things don\u2019t let your mind\u00a0settle,\u00a0they don\u2019t even allow you to sleep,\u201d\u00a0he\u00a0said.\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Meditation and\u00a0breathwork\u00a0can\u00a0provide relief from\u00a0those\u00a0disruptive\u00a0feelings.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur breath\u00a0has\u00a0a secret.\u00a0The breath\u00a0links our body and mind.
