The transition of Grade 10 learners to senior school in Nyandarua County currently stands at 88.3 per cent.<\/p>\n
The county Director of Education, Lucy Mutai said that the ongoing mop-up exercise to find whereabouts of local learners who are yet to enrol for a higher class has so far managed to trace 400 learners.<\/p>\n
However, Mutai noted that about 1000 other learners are yet to be accounted for and they were working closely with National Government Administrative Officers (NGAOs) to trace them.<\/p>\n
The director expressed concern that many learners are dropping out of school in the county to be employed as workers in potato farms.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe county is also experiencing high girls\u2019 drop out due to early marriages and teenage pregnancies,\u201d she noted.<\/p>\n
The Director called for a joint effort by all stakeholders in the fight against these vices so as to enhance 100 per cent transition and also retention.<\/p>\n
Mutai, who was giving a report on status of education in the county during a two-day workshop for Sensitisation on Monitoring, Evaluation and Tracking of National Government Programmes and Presidential Directives, further called upon the government to fast-track internet connectivity in schools across the county to enhance digitalisation of services, hence enhancing service delivery, while exposing learners to digital space.<\/p>\n
Nyandarua County Commissioner (CC), Abdirisack Jaldesa appreciated efforts by the Ministry of Education and local administration in ensuring the 100 percent transition of Grade 10 pupils into senior schools.<\/p>\n
Jaldesa further directed\u00a0area chiefs and their assistants to visit the junior schools within their jurisdictions and smoke out the learners who are yet to be enrolled for higher learning.<\/p>\n
The ongoing two-day sensitisation forum to be concluded on\u00a0Saturday has brought together national government administrative officers and other agencies involved in implementation of the Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA).<\/p>\n
