{"id":130333,"date":"2026-02-09T06:03:00","date_gmt":"2026-02-09T06:03:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/global-womens-alliance-denounces-musevenis-targeted-assault-on-ugandan-women\/"},"modified":"2026-02-09T06:03:00","modified_gmt":"2026-02-09T06:03:00","slug":"global-womens-alliance-denounces-musevenis-targeted-assault-on-ugandan-women","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/global-womens-alliance-denounces-musevenis-targeted-assault-on-ugandan-women\/","title":{"rendered":"Global women\u2019s alliance denounces Museveni\u2019s targeted assault on Ugandan women"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Feb 9 \u2014 Women\u2019s rights advocates across Africa and the world have condemned Uganda\u2019s security forces for systematic sexual violence and political repression targeting women following the January 2026 elections.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The Pan-African Progressive Leaders Solidarity Network on Sunday denounced the atrocities as \u201ca stain on the conscience of the African continent and a direct assault on the universal principles of human dignity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are not isolated incidents, but a systematic campaign of terror,\u201d the alliance stated, highlighting attacks that violate private spaces, bodily autonomy, and basic human dignity.<\/p>\n<p>The coalition detailed the brutal assault on Barbara Itungo Kyagulanyi, wife of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi, noting that \u201cfour military men perpetrated a heinous act of sexual violence by ripping off Barbara\u2019s clothing, leaving her exposed to over 50 jeering men.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/2026\/01\/ugandas-military-chief-denies-army-assaulted-bobi-wines-wife\/\">Uganda\u2019s military chief denies army assaulted Bobi Wine\u2019s wife<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>Barbara had previously been placed under illegal house arrest and denied access to family, media, and essential medical care.<\/p>\n<p>Other victims include Dr. Zahara Nampewo, who \u201cwas interrogated in her nightwear and denied the dignity of dressing herself,\u201d and Doreen Kaija, who \u201cwas abducted in her most vulnerable state\u2014assaulted while naked in her shower and bundled into a vehicle.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The alliance also cited systemic abuse in detention, noting that women like Sauda Madada and Olivia Lutaaya were \u201ctargeted for abuse and torture both during the process of arrest and while in detention.\u201d<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Contempt <\/h2>\n<p>Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba\u2019s public denigration of women, including derogatory online references, was condemned as \u201cproviding a greenlight for forces under his command to treat women with similar contempt, brutality, and violence.\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/2026\/02\/bobi-wine-military-occupies-magere-home\/\">Bobi Wine says Ugandan military now \u2018fully occupying\u2019 his house\u00a0<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>The coalition further highlighted enforced disappearances.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDr. Lina Zedriga and Jolly Jackline Tukamushaba were abducted by joint security forces in mid-January 2026\u2014yet the state continued to feign ignorance of their whereabouts,\u201d it noted.<\/p>\n<p>The letter called on global and continental bodies to act.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo the African Union, the African Court on Human and Peoples\u2019 Rights, the United Nations, and the East African Community: your silence will be seen as complicity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>It directly appealed to President Museveni and First Lady Janet Museveni, urging that \u201cyour silence in the face of the UPDF\u2019s crimes under your son\u2019s command\u2026 is deafening. We urge you to find your voice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The coalition addressed Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba, warning that \u201cby subjecting women to sexual violence, you by extension violate your daughter\u2019s, your wife\u2019s, and the dignity of all women.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The alliance committed to stamd in solidarity with Ugandans facing persecution vowing sustained efforts to demand accountability.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTo our sisters in Uganda: you do not walk alone.
