{"id":133847,"date":"2026-03-11T10:03:08","date_gmt":"2026-03-11T10:03:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/odm-faction-accuses-govt-of-hiding-human-rights-failures-in-cooperation-report\/"},"modified":"2026-03-11T10:03:08","modified_gmt":"2026-03-11T10:03:08","slug":"odm-faction-accuses-govt-of-hiding-human-rights-failures-in-cooperation-report","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/odm-faction-accuses-govt-of-hiding-human-rights-failures-in-cooperation-report\/","title":{"rendered":"ODM faction accuses govt of hiding human rights failures in cooperation report"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 11 \u2014 The \u2018Linda Mwananchi\u2019 ODM faction has accused the government of attempting to dilute constitutional freedoms and conceal human rights failures through what it described as a misleading report on the implementation of a political cooperation pact with President William Ruto\u2019s administration.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nairobi Senator Edwin Sifuna on Wednesday dismissed a report presented earlier at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) reviewing the UDA\u2013ODM 10-point agenda, calling it a \u201ccharade\u201d designed to mislead the public about the state of reforms.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe report is a charade meant to hoodwink the public into believing that the memorandum of understanding has been implemented, when it is obvious to all Kenyans that nothing could be further from the truth,\u201d Sifuna said, referring to the memorandum of understanding signed between President Ruto and the late former prime minister Raila Odinga.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the Linda Mwananchi faction said their alternative report focused heavily on issues of police accountability, protest rights, and alleged abuses during demonstrations, which they argue remain unresolved despite commitments made under the political pact.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Justice denied<\/h2>\n<p>Suba South Member of Parliament Caroli Omondi, presenting the group\u2019s findings, said Kenyans have yet to see meaningful justice for victims of police brutality during protests that have rocked the country in recent years.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCompensation for victims of police brutality during demonstrations has not been done,\u201d Omondi said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are told there will be two billion shillings in a supplementary budget. But who determined the number of victims? Who determined the value of their injuries? Where is justice and accountability?\u201d<\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/2026\/03\/odm-linda-mwananchi-faction-rejects-ruto-oburu-10-point-agenda-report\/\">ODM\u2019s Linda Mwananchi faction dismisses Ruto\u2013Oburu 10-point agenda report as \u2018charade\u2019<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>Omondi warned that proposals discussed during the political process risk being used to introduce new legal restrictions on demonstrations, a move he said would be inconsistent with constitutional protections for assembly and freedom of expression.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Constitution already guarantees the right to demonstrate,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhen we hear talk about a new law to \u2018protect victims of demonstrations,\u2019 we fear it is a euphemism for regulating or limiting protests.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The dispute follows a joint parliamentary group meeting between the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) and sections of ODM, where President William Ruto defended the cooperation framework and the progress report on the 10-point agenda.<\/p>\n<p>Ruto rebuked critics whom he said had \u201cappointed themselves supervisors\u201d of the pact, insisting that the commitments were made to Kenyan citizens rather than to individual politicians.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 11 \u2014 The \u2018Linda Mwananchi\u2019 ODM faction has accused the government of attempting to dilute constitutional freedoms and conceal human rights failures through what it described as a misleading report on the implementation of a political cooperation pact with President William Ruto\u2019s administration.
