NAIROBI, Kenya Mar 25 \u2013 New forensic evidence has been presented in court in connection with the fatal shooting of Rex Masai along Mama Ngina Street on June 20, 2024.<\/p>\n
A crime scene investigator from the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA), Joshua Mutua, testified that he analysed 36 photographs and two video recordings related to the incident.<\/p>\n
According to Mutua, the visual evidence captures a man described as having a brown complexion, dressed in caps and blue shirts, and wearing bracelets in the colours of the Kenyan flag.<\/p>\n
The individual is also seen carrying police communication equipment and a riot baton during the protests.<\/p>\n
The investigator told the court that the same individual appears consistently across both the photographs and video footage, which include scenes from the Occupy Parliament protests as well as police operations near a Land Cruiser fitted with a tear gas launcher.<\/p>\n
Mutua further indicated that the images presented are believed to show Officer Murungaru, linking the officer to the scene captured during the unrest.<\/p>\n
Additional CCTV footage from Absa Bank, recorded between 6:30 PM and 8:00 PM on the day of the shooting, was also presented, reinforcing the sequence of events surrounding the incident.<\/p>\n
The court heard that a formal forensic report dated July 15, 2025, is expected to be submitted, providing a comprehensive analysis that could strengthen the connection between the suspect and the fatal shooting.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
