{"id":136342,"date":"2026-04-01T15:02:54","date_gmt":"2026-04-01T15:02:54","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/president-ruto-puts-creative-economy-bill-on-fast-track-after-meeting-artistes\/"},"modified":"2026-04-01T15:02:54","modified_gmt":"2026-04-01T15:02:54","slug":"president-ruto-puts-creative-economy-bill-on-fast-track-after-meeting-artistes","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/president-ruto-puts-creative-economy-bill-on-fast-track-after-meeting-artistes\/","title":{"rendered":"President Ruto puts Creative Economy Bill on fast track after meeting artistes"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>President William Ruto has said he has asked the \u201cNational Assembly, through the Majority Leader, to fast-track the Creative Economy Bill 2026 alongside critical copyright\u201d in a bid to protect artistes.<\/p>\n<p>The President issued the statement after meeting with Gengetone and Urbantone artistes who shared their grievances.<\/p>\n<p>Among the issues raised was the continued exploitation of their talent without fair pay.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI met Gengetone and Urbantone artistes, who shared deeply troubling experiences regarding the loss of rights to their music due to questionable contracts with foreign entities,\u201d President Ruto said. \u201cIt is regrettable that our young creatives continue to face exploitation despite their immense talent and contribution to our cultural identity.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The President said that among the artistes facing this issue was rapper Exray.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey have lost over 700 songs, including \u2018Sipangwingwi\u2019, the song by Exray that powered our conversations in 2022,\u201d President Ruto continued.<\/p>\n<p>Adding that he would facilitate legal support to ensure they were compensated fairly.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have facilitated legal support to ensure they are adequately represented in court, and we have agreed on practical measures to safeguard their interests and ensure they receive fair reward for their work.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>During the 2021 campaign period, the Kenya Kwanza government promised to grow and boost the creative economy by ensuring that policies and infrastructure were in place to help local creatives thrive.
