{"id":136846,"date":"2026-04-07T10:02:49","date_gmt":"2026-04-07T10:02:49","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/odm-expresses-outrage-over-fuel-saga-urging-impartial-graft-fight\/"},"modified":"2026-04-07T10:02:49","modified_gmt":"2026-04-07T10:02:49","slug":"odm-expresses-outrage-over-fuel-saga-urging-impartial-graft-fight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/odm-expresses-outrage-over-fuel-saga-urging-impartial-graft-fight\/","title":{"rendered":"ODM expresses \u2018outrage\u2019 over fuel saga, urging impartial graft fight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 7 \u2014 The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) on Tuesday expressed \u201cprofound outrage\u201d over the unfolding fuel procurement scandal, calling for a full and impartial fight against graft while commending the government for the swift probe.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>ODM Party Leader Senator Oburu Oginga applauded investigative authorities and President William Ruto for ensuring that inquiries proceed professionally, expeditiously, and transparently, free from interference or favoritism.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe era of complacency in the face of corruption must come to an end,\u201d Oburu said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery public officer found culpable\u2014regardless of rank, office, or political persuasion\u2014must be held fully accountable.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The statement comes as senior energy officials, including former Petroleum Principal Secretary Mohamed Liban, ex-Kenya Pipeline Company Managing Director Joe Sang, former Energy and Petroleum Regulatory Authority Director General Daniel Kiptoo Bargoria, Deputy Director of Petroleum Joseph Wafula, and KPC Supply and Logistics Manager Joel Mburu, face criminal charges linked to alleged manipulation of petroleum stock data and irregular procurement of fuel.<\/p>\n<p>The five were released on Sh100,000 police cash bail each pending court appearance, as investigations probe allegations of falsified fuel stock data that created a false impression of a shortage, triggering emergency procurement of a consignment outside the Government-to-Government (G2G) framework. <\/p>\n<div class=\"wp-block-embed__wrapper\">\n<a href=\"https:\/\/www.capitalfm.co.ke\/news\/2026\/04\/energy-officials-bail-fuel-corruption-kenya\/\">Police free energy officials fired over fuel imports as ODPP remains silent on charges<\/a>\n<\/div>\n<p>Reports indicate that the emergency fuel, supplied at inflated prices, was also substandard, raising public safety concerns.<\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Pricing discrepancies <\/h2>\n<p>Preliminary findings show pricing discrepancies between shipments delivered in March. <\/p>\n<p>Fuel supplied by One Petroleum aboard MT Paloma landed in Mombasa at Sh198,855 per metric ton, compared with Sh140,111 per metric ton under the G2G consignment by Gulf Energy via MT FOS Mercury\u2014a difference of Sh58,744 per metric ton, or roughly Sh43.4 per litre.<\/p>\n<p>President Ruto has vowed an unrelenting crackdown on what he termed \u201cenergy sector cartels,\u201d declaring that those responsible for corruption will face accountability. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese cartels in the energy sector will not be allowed to operate freely.
