TEHRAN- Iran\u2019s Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi has blamed the US maximalist demands and naval blockade threats for the two countries\u2019 failure to reach an agreement in their recent peace talks in Pakistan.<\/p>\n
He made the remarks in a post on X early Monday, stressing that Tehran and Washington were only \u201cinches away\u201d from reaching an agreement in their negotiations in Islamabad, the Pakistani capital, on Saturday on easing tensions in the Middle East.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn intensive talks at highest level in 47 years, Iran engaged with US in good faith to end war. But when just inches away from \u2018Islamabad MoU,\u2019 we encountered maximalism, shifting goalposts, and blockade,\u201d Araghchi said.<\/p>\n
\u201cZero lessons earned. Good will beget good will. Enmity begets enmity,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n
In reaction to the talks\u2019 failure, US President Donald Trump said in a Sunday post on Truth Social that the US Navy would begin blocking ships trying to enter or leave the Strait of Hormuz.<\/p>\n
Iran\u2019s Navy Commander Shahram Irani on Sunday described Trump\u2019s threat of imposing a naval blockade on the Strait of Hormuz as \u201cvery ridiculous and laughable,\u201d the semi-official Tasnim news agency reported.<\/p>\n
He added Iran\u2019s naval forces are monitoring all movements by the US army in the region.<\/p>\n
Also on Sunday, Iran\u2019s Islamic Revolution Guards Corps said in a statement that any military vessels that intend to approach the Strait of Hormuz under any title or pretext will be considered a ceasefire violation and will be dealt with severely.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
