WASHINGTON DC, Apr 18 \u2013 The White House has said it had a \u201cproductive and constructive\u201d meeting with the head of artificial intelligence firm Anthropic, which is suing the US Department of Defense.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The meeting comes a week after the firm released its Claude Mythos preview, an AI tool that the company claims can outperform humans at some hacking and cyber-security tasks.<\/p>\n

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei spoke on Friday with Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles, Axios reports.<\/p>\n

A representative of Anthropic did not comment on the meeting, which comes two months after the White House derided the firm as a \u201cradical left, woke company\u201d.<\/p>\n

So far, only a few dozen companies have been given access to Mythos, which researchers have said is \u201cstrikingly capable at computer security tasks\u201d.<\/p>\n

The tool can find bugs lurking in decades-old code, according to Anthropic, and autonomously find ways to exploit them.<\/p>\n

Last week, Amodei said the company had \u201cspoken to officials across the US government\u201d and offered to work with them.<\/p>\n

Friday\u2019s meeting is a sign that Anthropic\u2019s technology may be too critical for even the US government to do without \u2013 despite the Trump administration\u2019s tough stance against the firm.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe discussed opportunities for collaboration, as well as shared approaches and protocols to address the challenges associated with scaling this technology,\u201d the White House said.<\/p>\n

The statement added that the meeting had \u201cexplored the balance between advancing innovation and ensuring safety\u201d.<\/p>\n

In March, Anthropic took legal action against the defence department and other federal agencies, after the firm was labelled a \u201csupply chain risk\u201d.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
