The United States of America (USA) President Donald Trump was Saturday rushed to safety from the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner after gunshots were heard at the venue.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The suspect was arrested. An officer was shot at close range, but his bullet-proof vest saved him.<\/p>\n

According to US media reports, the incident occurred at the Washington Hilton hotel, where the annual dinner was underway.<\/p>\n

The President and First Lady Melania Trump appeared to be part way through a conversation at the Washington Hilton when he was interrupted by a commotion at the White House table.<\/p>\n

According to BBC, loud bangs could be heard and then various secret service members escorted the president away from the venue as they called out \u201cstay down, stay down\u201d.<\/p>\n

The president, first lady and all other protectees are safe, the Secret Service said later, after seven to eight gunshots were fired.<\/p>\n

Speaking to the press after the incident, US attorney for Washington, Jeanine Pirro noted that the suspect is facing two counts for using firearm during crime of violence and assault on federal officers using dangerous weapon.<\/p>\n

She says the suspect will be arraigned before a federal court on Monday.<\/p>\n

This is the third shooting or attempted shooting that has taken place around Donald Trump in just the last few years.<\/p>\n

What we know about the suspected attacker<\/strong><\/p>\n

The alleged gunman who fired shots at the White House Correspondents\u2019 Dinner a few hours ago has been named as\u00a0Cole Tomas Allen, according to US media.<\/p>\n

The\u00a031-year-old\u00a0is reportedly from\u00a0Torrance, California\u00a0 in the south-western suburbs of Los Angeles.<\/p>\n

CBS News, the BBC\u2019s US partner, says Allen\u00a0worked as a tutor\u00a0in Torrance after graduating from the highly regarded California Institute of Technology.<\/p>\n

Police say he was a\u00a0guest at the Washington Hilton hotel, where the dinner was taking place, and was carrying\u00a0multiple weapons\u00a0\u2013 including guns and knives.<\/p>\n

Allen is\u00a0receiving hospital treatment\u00a0following the incident. He is expected to be\u00a0formally charged on Monday.<\/p>\n

\u201cI can\u2019t imagine there\u2019s any profession that\u2019s more dangerous,\u201d Trump said in the briefing room.<\/p>\n
