NAIROBI, Kenya, Apr 27 \u2014 National Liberal Party (NLP) leader Augustus Muli has vowed to call out any leader\u2014regardless of ethnicity\u2014who \u201cplays games with Ukambani\u2019s future,\u201d saying the region has suffered for decades from political hypocrisy and recycled leadership.<\/strong><\/p>\n

Speaking amid debate over his recent remarks on Rigathi Gachagua, Muli said his criticism was not tribal but rooted in defending the region\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhen I criticized DCP leader Rigathi Gachagua this week, some rushed to frame it as a tribal attack. It was not. It was a defense of Ukambani,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Muli accused Gachagua of double standards, arguing that the DCP leader had previously blamed some Ukambani politicians for keeping the region \u201cperpetually underdeveloped,\u201d yet was now backing the same figures.<\/p>\n

\u201cYou cannot diagnose the disease on Monday and dine with it on Tuesday. That is not a strategy. That is political gambling\u2014and Ukambani is not a casino,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The NLP leader maintained he would not spare any leader who betrays the region\u2019s interests.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019ll call out any leader, Kamba or otherwise, who plays games with Ukambani\u2019s future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

\u201cThis is not about tribe. It is about truth. If a Kamba leader betrays our people, I will name him. If a Kikuyu, Kalenjin, Luo, or Luhya leader uses our region as a pawn, I will name them too.\u201d<\/p>\n

Muli said Ukambani has paid \u201ctoo high a price for polite silence\u201d over the past six decades, citing repeated cycles of unfulfilled promises on cotton, dams, and factories that leave the region with \u201cno water, no jobs, no voice\u201d after every election.<\/p>\n

He argued that the United Opposition lacks sincerity in its current approach.<\/p>\n

\u201cEndorsing yesterday\u2019s failures as today\u2019s champions is not coalition-building. It is betrayal dressed as unity,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Ahead of the 2027 General Election, Muli called for a \u201cradical break\u201d from recycled leadership, urging a shift in Ukambani politics from personalities to economic development.<\/p>\n

He outlined a three-point NLP agenda: reviving Kitui Textiles and establishing agro-processing plants so that \u201cvalue addition stays here\u201d; fast-tracking Thwake Dam to irrigate more than 100,000 acres; and linking TVET institutions directly to industry so that \u201ca diploma comes with a job offer, not depression.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cUkambani\u2019s tragedy isn\u2019t a lack of resources. It\u2019s a lack of respect\u2014from Nairobi and from some of our own leaders,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Muli challenged Gachagua and the opposition to present a concrete development plan for the region.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf you\u2019re serious about Ukambani, show us factories, not funerals. Until then, we won\u2019t be your voting machine,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Addressing Kamba leaders, he added that the era of being \u201ckingmakers for others\u201d must end.<\/p>\n

\u201cEither we make Ukambani king, or history records us as the generation that leased our children\u2019s future,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The NLP leader dismissed claims that his remarks were driven by bitterness.<\/p>\n

\u201cIf demanding water for my mother and jobs for my sister is bitterness, then Kenya needs more bitter people,\u201d Muli said.<\/p>\n

He added that he entered politics to be \u201cuseful to the powerless,\u201d prioritizing \u201cpeople over party, region over tribe, and future over past.\u201d<\/p>\n
