I, however, want to give you my commitment that Laikipia County will not be left behind again. We will walk together as we transform the country,” he said.

The President, who was accompanied by Kithure Kindiki, Public Service Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku and Joshua Irungu, highlighted major infrastructure, housing, education and security projects underway in the county.

William Ruto said the government has invested Sh15 billion in affordable housing and modern market projects in Laikipia, including the construction of 13 markets aimed at supporting small-scale traders and stimulating local economies.

He also announced that Sh4 billion has been allocated for the 60-kilometre Nanyuki–Doldol road, with construction expected to begin soon after the identification of a contractor.

According to the President, the government is building six roads covering a total of 217 kilometres in the county, including the Kinamba–Matuiku and Rumuruti–Mutara–Nanyuki roads.

He added that the Kenya Defence Forces will open up security roads to improve safety and support economic activities in previously insecure areas.

In the education sector, the Ministry of Defence will construct five additional schools in Laikipia North, adding to the 15 already built in the region.

The President also commended residents for embracing the Social Health Authority programme, revealing that Laikipia has achieved more than 60 per cent registration. He noted that the government has paid Sh1.8 billion to hospitals in the county for healthcare services offered to residents.

On water and irrigation, William Ruto pledged the construction of mega dams through the National Infrastructure Fund to support irrigation farming, livestock and domestic water supply.

During the tour, the President laid the foundation stone for the Doldol Huduma Centre, which will include an ICT hub and offer 168 government services closer to residents. He also handed over a school bus to Kurum Day Secondary School and later inspected the ongoing 955-unit Starehe Affordable Housing Project in Nyahururu.

The President defended the government’s development record, saying ongoing projects across the country had exposed what he termed as false opposition claims that no development was taking place.

He also criticised leaders opposed to the Affordable Housing Programme, saying the initiative is creating jobs and helping low-income earners become homeowners.

On his part, Kithure Kindiki said the government remains focused on delivering development projects and maintaining security in Laikipia and neighbouring regions.

“Since President Ruto came into office, he has invested in the security of this region. Today there is peace,” he said.

Cabinet Secretary Geoffrey Ruku cautioned opposition leaders against using intimidation to advance political agendas, saying Kenya’s politics should remain focused on development and unity.

NAIROBI, Kenya, May 8 — William Ruto has declared that the era of discrimination and marginalisation in Kenya is over, saying the government is implementing inclusive development programmes to ensure no region is left behind.
