NAIROBI, Kenya May 10 \u2013 Former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici has criticizing the Kenya Kwanza administration over what she described as \u201cendless politics and failed promises\u201d amid growing economic hardship.<\/p>\n
Speaking during separate political engagements in Njukiini, Kabare, Inoi and Nyangati wards in Kirinyaga County, Ngirici accused Cabinet Secretaries, Principal Secretaries and senior state officers of neglecting their constitutional responsibilities in favor of early campaigns for the 2027 General Election.<\/p>\n
She claimed the government had shifted its focus from service delivery to political mobilization despite rising economic pressure, challenges facing farmers and growing public dissatisfaction.<\/p>\n
Ngirici said leaders serving in government should concentrate on addressing the country\u2019s pressing challenges instead of engaging in political rallies.<\/p>\n
She argued that Kenyans elected the current administration with expectations of lowering the cost of living, reviving key agricultural sectors and improving livelihoods, but many of those promises remain unmet.<\/p>\n
\u201cIf they want to do politics full time, let them resign from government and join the political field officially. Kenyans are tired of excuses while leaders move around campaigning every day using taxpayers\u2019 resources,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
The former lawmaker also faulted the government over what she termed as the decline of sectors affecting farmers in the Mt Kenya region. She cited the tea sector, saying farmers continued to bear the burden of multiple taxes despite repeated promises of reforms.<\/p>\n
Ngirici further criticized the implementation of the Social Health Authority (SHA), claiming many Kenyans were still struggling to access healthcare services.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey failed to make SHA work. They failed to solve the tea crisis. They failed to remove the many taxes hurting tea farmers. They promised guaranteed minimum returns for coffee and tea farmers during campaigns but nothing has been delivered,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n
Ngirici also accused the government of pursuing misplaced priorities, alleging that leaders were focused on efforts targeting former President Uhuru Kenyatta instead of addressing economic challenges facing citizens.<\/p>\n
She defended Kenyatta and former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, saying the two leaders deserved respect for their contribution to the country\u2019s leadership and development.<\/p>\n
\u201cUhuru Kenyatta is a statesman and must be respected. I will not sit down and watch leaders who served this country being disrespected for political convenience,\u201d Ngirici said.<\/p>\n
She also maintained that Kirinyaga County remains politically influential within the Mt Kenya region and cautioned national leaders against overlooking the county\u2019s political voice.<\/p>\n
