US President Donald Trump has said the month-long ceasefire between the US and Iran is on \u201cmassive life support\u201d.<\/p>\n

He told reporters in the Oval Office on Monday that while the ceasefire remained in place, it was \u201cunbelievably weak\u201d.<\/p>\n

Following Trump\u2019s comments, Iranian parliamentary speaker Mohammad Ghalibaf wrote on X that Iran\u2019s armed forces were, \u201cready to respond and to teach a lesson for any aggression.\u201d<\/p>\n

Iran laid out its demands to end the war and reopen the Strait of Hormuz in a counter-offer sent to the US on Sunday. Trump rejected the proposal, calling it \u201ctotally unacceptable\u201d and a \u201cpiece of garbage\u201d.<\/p>\n

After Trump\u2019s comments, Esmail Baghaei, a foreign ministry spokesperson for Iran, said Tehran\u2019s proposals were \u201cresponsible\u201d and \u201cgenerous\u201d.<\/p>\n

After his comments saying Iran\u2019s armed forces ready to respond, Ghalibaf said in a separate post on X that there was \u201cno alternative but to accept the rights of the Iranian people as laid out in the 14-point proposal\u201d.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe longer they drag their feet, the more American taxpayers will pay for it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Tehran\u2019s offer includes an immediate end to the war on all fronts \u2013 a reference to the continued Israeli attacks against Iran-supported Hezbollah in Lebanon \u2013 a halt to the US naval blockade of Iranian ports and guarantees of no further attacks on Iran, according to Iran\u2019s semi-official Tasnim news agency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

It also reportedly includes a demand for compensation for war damage and an emphasis on Iranian sovereignty over the Strait of Hormuz.<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Trump criticised the proposal, writing on Truth Social on Sunday: \u201cI have just read the response from Iran\u2019s so-called \u2018Representatives.\u2019 I don\u2019t like it \u2013 TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE.\u201d<\/p>\n

In response to Trump\u2019s comments, Baghaei said Iran would act \u201cin any way necessary to secure our interests\u201d.<\/p>\n

Speaking in the Oval Office later on Monday, Trump addressed the ceasefire between the two countries which has largely been\u00a0observed since April despite occasional exchanges of fire.<\/p>\n

He told reporters: \u201cI would say the ceasefire is on massive life support\u2026 when the doctor walks in and says, \u2018Sir, your loved one has approximately a 1 percent chance of living\u2019.\u201d<\/p>\n

The US president said Iran\u2019s leaders were \u201cvery dishonourable people\u201d, adding: \u201cLook, I\u2019ve had to deal with them four or five times \u2013 they change their mind.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u201cThat piece of garbage they sent us \u2013 I didn\u2019t even finish reading it,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Trump also accused Iran of going back on an agreement to allow the US to remove its supply of enriched uranium. He insisted that Iran would \u201cnever have a nuclear weapon\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n

Iran\u2019s Tasnim news agency quoted a source close to the negotiating team as saying: \u201cThere is no such thing in Iran\u2019s proposal as accepting taking out enriched nuclear material.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
