Today, Kenyans are paying over Sh214 per litre despite promises of better economic policies,” Ngirici said.

The former lawmaker also accused the government of neglecting farmers in Mwea by allowing excessive rice imports, which she said had weakened the local market and forced farmers to sell produce at low prices.

According to Ngirici, local rice farmers are struggling due to cheap imports flooding the market, making it difficult for them to recover production costs.

“They promised to protect farmers and lower production expenses, but today Mwea rice farmers are suffering heavy losses because of uncontrolled imports,” she stated.

Ngirici further criticized delays in the release of school capitation funds, arguing that the education sector was facing growing instability as schools struggle to operate.

She said previous administrations under former Presidents Mwai Kibaki and Uhuru Kenyatta had established stable education systems that ensured uninterrupted learning.

“Today children are being sent home because schools have not received capitation funds. That should not happen in a functioning system,” she said.

The politician also defended her decision to leave the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) before the last election, saying she had foreseen governance failures within the party.

Ngirici claimed her victory in the Kirinyaga gubernatorial race had been stolen and vowed that her supporters would remain vigilant in future elections.

“I realized early enough that Kenyans were being misled, and I could not continue supporting that path. This time, people will protect their votes,” she declared.

During the rallies, Ngirici urged young people, especially Gen Z voters, to register in large numbers ahead of the 2027 General Election, arguing that political participation was key to changing the country’s leadership.

She cited low youth turnout during the Ol Kalou nominations and the Emurua Dikirr by-election as a worrying sign of political disengagement among young voters.

“The only way to change leadership is through the ballot. Young people must register and vote,” she said.

Ngirici also disclosed that she recently met former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua, popularly known as “Riggy G,” and said opposition leaders were already discussing the formation of a united coalition to challenge Ruto in 2027.

She hinted at the possibility of joining the Democracy for the Citizens Party (DCP) as she prepares for a possible Kirinyaga gubernatorial bid.

“I have listened to the people and I respect their wishes. At the right time, we shall make our political direction clear,” Ngirici told supporters.

NAIROBI, Kenya May 16 – Former Kirinyaga Woman Representative Wangui Ngirici has sharply criticized President William Ruto and the Kenya Kwanza administration, accusing the government of abandoning promises made to Kenyans during the 2022 General Election campaigns.
