UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has announced he will resign as prime minister and leader of the Labour Party.<\/p>\n
In a statement outside 10 Downing Street, he said every decision he has made in office has been about \u201cputting the country I love first\u201d.<\/p>\n
Starmer thanked his \u201cfantastic wife, Vic\u201d, describing her as a \u201crock\u201d. He also says he wants to be the \u201cbest dad I can to my beautiful children, who are my pride and joy\u201d.<\/p>\n
He further said he will do everything he can to ensure an orderly handover of power and will give his successor his full support.<\/p>\n
Andy Burnham, who could replace the PM, will be sworn in as MP for Makerfield, after winning the by-election last week<\/p>\n
