The objective is to ensure their inclusion and participation in political and electoral processes while also helping them understand the role of ORPP in safeguarding their rights within political parties and other democratic spaces,” he said.

He added that the sensitization forums were also designed to educate PLWDs on both their collective and individual responsibilities in political participation.

“The participants were sensitized on the mandate of ORPP and how the institution supports them to ensure they are fully integrated into the political process,” Mwaura added.

According to the ORPP official, the engagements demonstrate the commitment of the agency and its partners to promoting peaceful, inclusive, and participatory elections ahead of the 2027 polls.

The discussions focused on compliance with electoral laws, voter education, and addressing emerging challenges that could undermine the credibility and integrity of the electoral process.

IEBC Nakuru County Elections Manager George Karani said the joint engagements were necessary because the three institutions share common responsibilities in election preparedness and stakeholder coordination.

“Most of the issues raised are policy-related, and my office has documented them for onward transmission to policymakers for consideration and action,” Karani said.

Among the concerns raised by PLWDs were alleged discrimination during party nominations and the difficulties faced by independent candidates, including the requirement to collect at least 500,000 signatures.

Meanwhile, Nakuru County Police representative Julia Mugani warned politicians against engaging criminal gangs and goons during the electioneering period, cautioning that security agencies will take firm action against individuals seeking to disrupt peace.

The stakeholder forums are expected to continue in different parts of the county as agencies intensify civic education and election preparedness efforts ahead of the 2027 General Elections.

NAKURU, Kenya Jun 24 – The Office of the Registrar of Political Parties (ORPP), the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC), and the National Police Service have stepped up stakeholder engagement efforts in Nakuru County as preparations for the 2027 General Elections gather momentum.
