NAIROBI, Kenya Jun 27 \u2013 Chief Justice Martha Koome has appointed Innocent Muganda as the new Chairperson of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal (PPDT) for a non-renewable six-year term.<\/p>\n
The appointment was announced through a Gazette Notice and takes effect from June 4, 2026.<\/p>\n
\u201cIn exercise of the powers conferred by Article 172 (1) (b) (i) and (c) of the Constitution and section 39 (2) (a) of the Political Parties Act, the Judicial Service Commission appoints Innocent Odhiambo Muganda to be the Chairperson of the Political Parties Disputes Tribunal,\u201d the notice stated.<\/p>\n
Muganda now takes charge of the tribunal tasked with resolving disputes involving political parties, coalition agreements, party nominations and disagreements between political parties and their members.<\/p>\n
His appointment comes at a time when political parties are expected to intensify internal activities and realignments ahead of future electoral processes.<\/p>\n
The Political Parties Disputes Tribunal has in recent years handled numerous high-profile cases linked to party primaries, coalition disputes and leadership wrangles.<\/p>\n
