{"id":14684,"date":"2024-03-18T12:03:22","date_gmt":"2024-03-18T12:03:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/index.php\/2024\/03\/18\/court-orders-mataras-continued-detention-in-starlet-wahus-murder-case\/"},"modified":"2024-03-18T12:03:22","modified_gmt":"2024-03-18T12:03:22","slug":"court-orders-mataras-continued-detention-in-starlet-wahus-murder-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/chezaspin.com\/blog\/court-orders-mataras-continued-detention-in-starlet-wahus-murder-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Court orders Matara\u2019s continued detention in Starlet Wahu\u2019s murder case"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><strong>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 18 \u2014 John Matara, the prime suspect in the murder of socialite Starlet Wahu, will remain in detention at least until May 9 when his bail application will come up for hearing.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Justice Kanyi Kimondo issued the directive on Monday when he deferred a scheduled hearing after the State failed to present a pre-bail report.<\/p>\n<p>He ordered the detention of Matara at Nairobi\u2019s Industrial Area Remand and Allocation Centre after his lawyer said he could not argue the application for bail without referring to the pre-bail report.<\/p>\n<p>Advocate Samuel Ayora noted the report would have an impact on the outcome of the application.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Kimondo had, in orders issued on February 26, directed Probation Service to file the pre-bail report before March 18.<\/p>\n<p>The Probation Department however requested two more weeks to finalise the document.<\/p>\n<p>Ayora faulted the request for more time labelling it as unfair to his client.<\/p>\n<p>Justice Kimondo explained the allocation of the May 9 court date citing an imminent recess.<\/p>\n<p>Judges will break for recess from April 2 to April 30, according to a notice circulated to court users.<\/p>","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>NAIROBI, Kenya, Mar 18 \u2014 John Matara, the prime suspect in the murder of socialite Starlet Wahu, will remain in detention at least until May 9 when his bail application will come up for hearing.
